Volunteer Enrichment

One of the perks of being a volunteer with the Hanauma Bay Education Program is being able to participate in monthly enrichment activities, planned exclusively for our dedicated volunteers. These activities range from guided snorkels, to field trips and special educational talks with expert guest speakers. We try to plan programs that relate to what we do here at Hanauma, but also enjoy fitting in fun events that get our volunteers to learn more about the natural world around us.

A recent HBEP volunteer enrichment program was entitled Starry Night - an evening under the stars with the University of Hawaii StarLab. The UH StarLab volunteers set up in the Hanauma Bay theater, a 20'x20' inflatable planetarium dome that projected constellations of the night sky for those who were seated inside. They also set up three large telescopes just outside the theater entrance, which we used to view the moon and Jupiter alongside its four moons. It was a great event with eager participants...and we look forward to another "Starry Night" with the UH StarLab in the future!
